The key to human happiness lies within our own state of mind, and so too do the primary obstacles to that happiness.
Buddhism is pretty clear about what happiness means; it’s a state of mind that’s free from grasping, neediness, anxiety, and delusion. It’s not dependent on particular circumstances, so you can be happy even when you don’t get what you want or when things are painful, difficult, or sad.
This is a pretty radical proposition for most of us. It means your happiness is up to you. You don’t need someone else to give it to you or to transform yourself into a better, richer, or different person to experience it. You don’t need to be without struggles to feel content, at ease, and open.
I was pretty skeptical of this idea because I’d been chasing happiness for a long time when I started meditating, and I thought being happy meant excitement, success, or finding love with another person. You might be thinking this too. But I know that you can discover a much deeper happiness — an abiding state of okayness within yourself, because I’ve experienced it. I can show you how to feel more open to the unfolding of life, less demanding and controlling, and more satisfied with yourself and who you are right now.
Take a look at my upcoming events below👇, and sign up for a program soon. Get my books, they have many practices you can do. Or schedule a one-on-one session with me for individualized meditation instructions and encouragement. If you have questions, you can ask me by replying to this email.
You might not think your personal happiness matters much, considering the suffering of so many beings in this world. But when your happiness is based on wisdom, appreciation, and mindfulness, it becomes powerful force for good and beneficial actions that affect everyone you encounter.
