There’s no paywall on this meditation because I wish for all of us to become grounded, confident, and reliable even during unpredictable or chaotic moments. I hope you practice it often and share with anyone you think may benefit from it 🪷.
This week I felt especially unsettled, and I blamed it on recent events—political uncertainty, gun violence, and extremely hot weather. I imagined that I would feel easier when things calmed down—but then I remembered that things never truly calm down.
The difficulties of the world always exist—there hasn’t been a moment in my lifetime (or yours) when the world has been free of oppression, war, disease, and general turmoil. And much of this trouble is caused by unsteady and uneasy minds, just like mine and yours.
So, if you want to contribute to creating a peaceful and wise world, it’s important to notice when your mind and body are agitated, and learn to steady yourself even during difficult circumstances. The world needs more calm and stable people, able to see problems with wisdom and meet suffering with compassion.

Today’s meditation is a short practice to help you feel balanced and grounded. Using a metaphor of the strongly rooted lotus flower, we’ll plant an intention of security and confidence, even in our unstable and ever-changing world. It includes these lovingkindness phrases:
May I/you/we feel safe.
May I/you/we feel steady.
May I/you/we be at ease.
We’ll take inspiration from this instruction:
You should always know where your feet are.
Friends, may your lotus feet remain steadfast on this earth! May it be so!
