How to Cultivate Your Superpowers

Our March Theme 🪫

I’m only exaggerating a little bit when I say that you have superpowers — natural, inherent qualities that can transform your life and the world. In the Buddhist tradition, these powers are called the Brahmaviharas: the Four Immeasurables or the Four Boundless States; love, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity.

Brahma means divine and virahara is abode, or home, or dwelling, so when we realize these mind states, we’re living like divine beings — with great power and agency, as a force for good for ourselves, each other and the world.

In a time of division and strife, we need more people who are realized in these four qualities, and who act from them. People who develop policies from compassion and wisdom, who run companies that celebrate and create conditions for employees’ happiness and success, and who build families that value goodness, mindfulness, and kindness.

Each Monday this month, I’ll share a meditation related to each of our superpowers. Plan to listen and practice everyday, and use the exercises and contemplative prompts to support your efforts. The intention of this newsletter is to help you take care of yourself, so be gentle and mindful—if you need to rest or take a break, don’t be afraid to do so. If you have questions, ask in the comments, and be sure to encourage everyone in our community by posting in our chat!
